Editorial Spring 2012
Written by Nell Merionwen
The days are lengthening and the nights drawing out. Spring has bounced it's way into the world and brought with it some much needed sunshine.
Here at Downsizer we find this a busy time of year.
There is always something to do on the plot, and now is the time for sowing and planting, ready for the growing season.
Don't despair if you don't have a plot on which to grow your own.
Here, at Downsizer, we believe that every little step helps, and there are many ways to grow your own food without a garden or allotment.
Perhaps you wish to turn over a new leaf to coincide with the spring equinox, by planning a new allotment, or starting your own compost. Downsizer is here to help and support.
Maybe the burgeoning buds and new growth on the hedgerows will inspire you to turn your hand to foraging. Take a look at our articles on finding food for inspiration, and to keep you safe in your endeavours.
Many of us are consumed by lambing season and others of us are starting to see our chicks and ducklings emerge. Seeing new fluffy life tumble from both incubator and broody bird alike, is always a joy.
Perhaps you would like to break into the world of chicken keeping. On either a large scale, with a view to selling eggs or simply in your own garden. Downsizer is here to help.
Like many of us, here at Downsizer, you may simply wish to make yourself a more sustainable home, or perhaps you desire to expand and support your existing way of life. Here you can find all sorts of useful ideas and tips from making your own soap, producing your own easily compostable dishcloths, to giving an old and loved piece of furniture a new lease of life.
However, we are not all just about mud under the nails, and building a sustainable home and environment. We also take in the lighter side of life with all the joy and aplomb sustainability affords. Here you can share recipes for herbal beauty treatments. You can find valuable advice on home education. You will even find such diverse and useful insights into safe internet use.
Please feel free to sign up and log in and seek advice from our friendly forum, or perhaps you can give some welcome advice, and let others learn from your own experience.
All are welcome here at Downsizer.
