What the name suggests - slightly different from bought ones, but suitable to eat on their own, or with cheese/pate

- 6 oz plain wholemeal/wheat/brown flour (the strong stuff for breadmaking is OK too)
- 2oz oatmeal (fine or medium, but not coarse or pinhead)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 3oz margarine - you can use the hard block stuff for a crisper biscuit, but the usual spready marge also works
- 1oz soft brown sugar (dark or light)
- 3-4 tablespoons of milk
Method/steps
- Pre-heat normal oven to 190C / 375F / Gas 5. Fan oven 170C
- Mix flour, oatmeal, salt and baking powder together in a bowl
- Rub in the margarine till mix is like breadcrumbs
- Stir in the sugar
- Add the milk bit by bit, and mix to a firm dough
- Turn onto floured surface and roll out thinly
- Cut out using 3" cutter or similar
- Place on heavy greased baking tray
- Prick all over with a fork
- Bake in oven for 12 - 15 mins till just browning (10-12 mins fan oven)
- Remove from baking tray with a fish slice and leave to cool on wire rack
