- 6oz golden syrup
- 3 and a half oz black treacle
- 3oz light muscavado sugar
- 6oz unsalted butter
- 7oz oatmeal
- 8oz plain flour
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 1 egg beaten with 3 tbsp milk
Method/steps
- Preheat oven to 170c and line a 23cm / 9in square tin with greaseproof or parchment paper
- Put the syrup, treacle, sugar and butter in a saucepan and dissolve together
- Mix together the oatmeal, flour, ginger and bicarbonate of soda and stir into the syrup followed by the egg
- Pour into the prepared tin and bake for 1 hour, or until an inserted skewer comes out clean
- Transfer to a cooling rack, remove the paper and allow to cool. Cut into 12 pieces
