Editorial Mid Summer 2011

Yes, ok, I'm British and therefore unnaturally focused on whether it's raining or not, but it matters, there is a drought in some parts of the country which can have a local consequence, stock sold early, crops struggling, none of this will help with food costs. Some ideas for keeping the cost of cooking down can be found in one of the downsizer articles.

There is still a great deal growing in the garden however, from first time vegetables (everyone should have a go) to first time nuts or an apricot bounty! Ideas for growing the best strawberries and how about this for a wild variety of chillies? Marvellous aren't they.

Enough of this - I want to point you all to a very lovely, very downsizer event. Two of our forum members met (thanks to downsizer) and fell in love. Ahhhh! This month they married and true to their beliefs every ingredient, from the bride's beautiful dress to the groom's waistcoat, from the flower's in her hand to the food at the reception, was sourced as locally as possible, much of it produced or made especially for them by their many friends and family. This is how to do it, with love.
