Here come the sun! Rumour has it that after the washout that was 2008 we will be enjoying a long, hot summer this year, so expect a hosepipe ban to come to a suburb near you soon.

That said, you’ll be wanting something to watch go dry, dead and brown so why not try your hand at a hanging basket, it may be a little more difficult than just driving to B&Q, but certainly more rewarding, unless you’re my father in law.

If your aesthetic needs don’t extend beyond your belly then don’t forget the important veg plot jobs that take place this month, keeping on top of the plot now will ensure you can relax and enjoy the fruits of your labour throughout the summer. And if you are fond of foraging then don’t forget the seasonal goodies that can be had, and don’t ever forget the most underrated little green of them all, the humble stinging nettle.

Even though we say goodbye to the months with an ‘R’ in them, the mild winters mean that rabbits breed almost all year, but these prolific, er, eaters, are a tasty treat that can be picked up very cheaply if not free. If you are lucky enough to get your hands on one of these fat free dinners then take a look at this article on how to skin and paunch your supper (although it is a bit graphic)

Whatever you do this month, do it outside, with the telly off, and as always, enjoy yourself. Oh, and don’t forget to pop in to the forum to tell us how much fun you’re having, wirelessly, from the bottom of the garden, of course.
