Numberline Lane - teaching and learning maths through stories PDF Print E-mail
Written by fonant

gus_shadow_white.png Numberline Lane is a set of ten mathematical story books, ideal for home schooling or helping children with early maths.

The A5 format books are 18 pages long with full-page colour illustrations, and are designed for children aged between four and seven years old. Each book tells a story about one of the characters from Numberline Lane. The stories teach different objectives related to the National Numeracy Strategy.

Each book focuses on a different maths objective for Early Years and Key Stage 1. The website has activities for parents to do at home to back up the books, and worksheets for use in the classroom (an increasing resource by the day.)

  • Walter One's story covers the development of the number line and simple number patterns.
  • Suzie Two's story covers ordinal numbers (first, second, third...).
  • Hebe Three's story covers sorting and grouping objects.
  • Nora Four's story covers counting in twos and the two times table.
  • Clive Five's story covers the addition of numbers to total ten.
  • Nick Six's story covers doubles and an introduction to halves.
  • Kevin Seven's story covers non-standard unit measurements.
  • Katy Eight's story covers basic subtraction and the difference between two small numbers.
  • Nigel Nine's story covers odd and even numbers and simple sharing.
  • Jenny Ten's story covers patterns and two-dimensional shapes.

Also featured in the stories are the magician Gus Plus and the rather naughty Linus Minus (for some reason the most popular character with children!).
