Editorial June 2012

Written by Nell Merionwen

And so, here is flaming June.

A month for bees, chicks, abundant growth, and hot balmy days that are still interspersed with refreshing rain showers.

Here, at downsizer, June can be a time of frenzied activity. Living a sustainable life can seem a little daunting while trying to keep up with mother nature.

From helping you map out those jobs on the plot, that demand so such attention in June; showing you how to make the most of the growing season with little or no space, or even starting with bees and collecting your first swarm, we are here to help.

The chickens, ducks and geese will be popping up with their newly fledged little ones to melt your heart, or at least starting to show you what an egg glut looks like. Have a look at our cooking, preserving and homebrewing articles or indeed our recipies section to find inspiration.

Alternatively, perhaps you would like to turn you hand to foraging for wild food to accompany your own produce.

We have many and varied traders here at downsizer. June is often a busy period for them too. Have a look at what they have to offer in our traders section. There is nothing more satisfying than a beautiful hand made gift, or sourcing your food from a small ethical business. From BBQ Boxes, free range chicken to a vast range of hatching eggs, you can find it all here.

Don't forget to put your feet up. Enjoy the feeling of self satisfaction with your own wine, have a look at our June wine maker's calender for recipes and know how. Perhaps even substitute the obligatory BBQ with your own back garden tandoor oven. All in all June is a time to be enjoyed not endured. Busy, busy, busy, but what better time to stand and stare at all the rewards on offer.

So, please sign up and join the fun here at downsizer. You will certainly be made to feel very welcome.
